Ten members of our MIKRO research group, together with colleagues from the Bacteriology group, participated in the 17th Slovenian Conference on Plant Protection with international participation, organised by the Plant Protection Society of Slovenia (3-4 March 2026, Radenci).

The conference brought together researchers, advisors, and plant protection specialists working in various areas of crop health and food production. Our team contributed to the scientific programme with three oral presentations and seven poster presentations, showcasing our ongoing research on plant pathogens, diagnostics, and genomic approaches in plant protection.

The Plant Protection Society of Slovenia is a professional association that connects researchers, advisors, and other experts in the field of plant protection. Through conferences such as this, the society promotes knowledge exchange and collaboration among stakeholders involved in sustainable crop production.

This year’s discussions highlighted several important challenges facing plant protection. Due to the decreasing availability of plant protection products, effective crop protection is becoming increasingly demanding and requires continuous education of all stakeholders involved in food production. At the same time, research is focusing more on environmentally acceptable plant protection strategies, aiming to integrate sustainable solutions into agricultural systems. The conference also emphasised the growing role of digitalisation and modern diagnostic approaches, which are expected to improve early detection of plant pathogens and support more efficient implementation of plant protection strategies in Slovenia.

Participation in the conference provided an excellent opportunity for our team to present our work, exchange ideas with colleagues from Slovenia and abroad, and stay up to date with current developments in plant protection research.
